The secrets of ancient African is the love of family. The customs and traditions are there to build a strong union with their community. It is the love of family which makes Africa whole.
I realized when looking at their culture I did not easily understand all greetings or custom that was preformed by everyone. I tried to imitate their actions because I didn’t want to be single out as different. But mostly I joined in out of respect for my husband. More and more I tried not to make any mistakes but being the only American most times it was hard.
I soon realized that the reason that a lot of his family and friends like me is because I was becoming a part of them. We are invited to a lot of events sometime last minute. We go and I am greeted as if I was African most times.
My husband is always smiling and happy to be received. I never look at it that way that I could have been one those American wives that are never welcome like the African wives. You know the wives that are always absent from a lot of the events. Not because they’re not invited but because they don’t feel included. One or two even asked me if I was African. I then begin seeing that I was treated differently in most cases then some of the other American wives.
When I pointed out that to my husband he said maybe it’s because they don’t really care about African culture or traditions.
I guess that’s why a couple of them asked if I was African. I blend in with the customs and culture. I’m always practicing every where I go.
So everyone (My family and friends) always asks me if my husband makes me follow his culture and customs? And when I tell them no he doesn’t they don’t believe me.
You guys know I asked my husband what he thought. His reply was and I quote; “I didn’t marry you because you followed my culture or custom. When I met you, you didn’t follow anything. Even months later when we got married you were still the same. I just love you. You think that any man would divorce his wife for that if he love her? The answer is No. So stop worrying about these things.” End quote.
So you guys see my husband is happy I’m received with respect but it’s still not a big deal to him.
Now when I spent $200 on a meal he was very concerned. Hey you guys know me by now it’s the airport so what did you think. Lets just say as punishment this one took the cake. I had to return everything I bought within a two week period. And no shopping for a month. I’m crying because I’m pretty sure I’m going to miss the Fenty Beauty launch.
Update on the launch I did missed everything oh well it’ll be restocked by the time I’m off this is a no shopping month hopefully.
Okay travelers just know that this is an airport so expect delays, late arrival, detours, and layovers. As of always catch you in the sky.
